Murray Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director Larry Ballew was recently honored at the Northwest Georgia EMS Region 1 Annual Banquet as the 2013 Stanley Payne EMS Director of the Year. The award given annually by the group is given to a Northwest Georgia EMS director that has gone above the call of duty in conducting his job as a local EMS Director.
It is his 4th time receiving the award.
Northwest Georgia Emergency Medical Services is a collaboration between the Northwest Georgia EMS Advisory Council and the Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma Region 1. The mission of Northwest Georgia EMS is to assist and advise in the development of the emergency medical services system in 16 counties throughout Northwest Georgia. The annual Stanley Payne EMS Director of the Year award is selected and voted on by local EMS Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
“I am greatly honored to receive the Stanley Payne EMS Director of the Year Award”, states Ballew, “ as our county’s EMS Director my job is to go out each day and give the best I can to helping preserve the health and wellfare of our community. There are so many great EMS Directors in our area of Georgia, I am humbled to be honored as a part of this group.”
Ballew, a long time Murray County Resident, has been both the county’s EMS director as well as Coroner for the past 36 years. He currently oversees a staff of 25 Paramedics and 10 EMT’s with Murray EMS. The EMS service, in association with Murray Medical Center, operates the county’s 911 Ambulance service. “We are so proud of Larry”, states Roy Orr, CEO of Murray Medical Center, “his dedication and service to the citizens of Murray County as EMS Director is to be commended. Our EMS team requires a great leader to touch and preserve the lives of the many citizens that use our services, the countless number of people that have been helped or saved by Murray EMS are a testament that Mr. Ballew is that leader for our community.”
Ballew resides in Chatsworth with his wife Karen.
